Dual-Sensitivity Sensor: The Gemini’s standout feature is its 5K S35 sensor, which has two separate sensitivity modes. This gives you a choice between a “Standard” mode for normal daylight shooting and a “Low Light” mode that is optimized for dark environments.
Low-Light Performance: The “Low Light” mode provides significantly cleaner images with less noise and better shadow detail. This was a major advancement for RED cameras, which had a reputation for being less sensitive in low light.
5K Resolution: It captures video at up to 5K resolution (5120 x 3000), offering a high-resolution canvas for reframing, VFX, and post-production stabilization.
High Frame Rates: The Gemini can shoot at up to 96 fps at 5K Full Format, and even higher frame rates at lower resolutions, such as 300 fps at 2K.
REDCODE RAW & ProRes: The camera records in RED’s proprietary, visually lossless REDCODE RAW format. It can also simultaneously record in Apple ProRes or Avid DNxHD/HR for an efficient proxy workflow.
Modular DSMC2 System: As part of the DSMC2 line, the Gemini is highly modular. You can easily swap out lens mounts (PL or EF) and add a variety of accessories and modules for different shooting needs.
Impressive Dynamic Range: The sensor offers over 16.5 stops of dynamic range, allowing it to capture a wide range of tones from deep shadows to bright highlights.
Anamorphic Ready: With a sensor that is 300 pixels taller than some of RED’s other 5K sensors, it’s particularly well-suited for anamorphic shooting and provides excellent lens coverage.
