A classic set of high-speed prime lenses renowned in the cinematography industry, often used to achieve a sought-after vintage film look. The MK2 and MK3 versions share the same core optics but have mechanical improvements.
Fast Aperture: Uniform maximum aperture of T1.3 across the set, excellent for low-light shooting and achieving a shallow depth of field.
Compact & Lightweight: Small form factor and low weight, making them ideal for handheld, gimbal, and Steadicam use.
Vintage Aesthetic: Produces a unique, flattering image with a pleasing, gentle fall-off, organic feel, and distinctive flares/bokeh, especially wide open.
Optics & Contrast: Considered sharp and high-contrast (especially when stopped down to T2.8 or above), suitable for modern digital sensors.
Mechanical Improvements (MK3 over MK2):
Focus Scale: Larger, more legible focus marks, often oriented upright (90° rotated) when mounted (a key distinguishing feature).
Focus Rotation: Longer, more precise focus rotation (around 270°), which is preferred by focus pullers.
MK2 lenses often featured dual imperial/metric focus scales, while MK3 typically features a single scale (imperial or metric).
PL Mount: Standard Arri PL mount for compatibility with professional cinema cameras (Super 35 format coverage).
