The Zeiss Super Speed MKIII – Uncoated lenses are a variant of the classic, vintage Zeiss Super Speeds, widely used in cinematography for their unique visual characteristics. The “uncoated” aspect refers to the removal of the anti-reflective coating on the front and/or rear lens elements, which alters the lens’s optical performance.

Key Features and Benefits

Distinct Cinematic Look: The lack of a T* anti-reflective coating results in a softer, lower-contrast image and a significant increase in lens flare. This is a deliberate aesthetic choice for a dreamy, stylized, or vintage feel.

Ultra-Fast Aperture: With a maximum aperture of T1.3, these lenses are exceptionally fast, making them ideal for shooting in low-light conditions without needing to increase the camera’s ISO.

Pleasing Bokeh: When wide open, the lenses produce a round, soft bokeh. When stopped down, their 7-blade iris can create a characteristic triangular or polygonal bokeh.
