It is a MOS (Motor Only Sync) camera, optimized for non-sync sound environments like special effects, high-speed, and action cinematography. The “ES” designation highlights its main improvement over the standard 435: a continuously electronically adjustable shutter. This feature revolutionized on-set flexibility by allowing dynamic exposure and motion blur changes while the camera is running. The camera is renowned for its modular design, rock-solid image steadiness (using a 5-link movement with dual registration pins), and wide operational range.

Key Features:

Electronic Variable Shutter: Shutter angle (11.2° to 180°) is continuously adjustable while running, enabling dynamic exposure ramping and smooth motion blur transitions in-shot. This is the key difference from the standard 435.
High Frame Rate: Shoots from 1 to 150 fps (frames per second) in both forward and reverse, providing extensive capabilities for extreme slow motion and motion effects.
MOS Camera Design: Optimized for flexibility and size rather than quiet operation, making it ideal for Steadicam, crane, remote, and motion control applications where a small, robust high-speed body is needed.
Functional Expansion Module (FEM): Integrated module provides interface ports for full remote control and Time Code (TC) recording, supporting advanced production methods and workflow.
