CINETAPE MEASURE System, developed by Cinematography Electronics, is the industry-standard ultrasonic distance-measuring tool used in professional filmmaking. It functions as an electronic “tape measure” by emitting ultrasonic sound pulses that bounce off subjects to provide a real-time, continuous distance readout. This data allows Focus Pullers (1st ACs) to maintain sharp focus during complex shots without needing to manually measure with a physical tape.
Key Features and Benefits
Continuous Real-Time Readout: Provides a non-stop stream of distance data, allowing the focus puller to react instantly to subtle subject or camera movements.
Ultrasonic Precision: Uses “horns” to send and receive sonar signals, ensuring accuracy even in low-light or physically obstructed environments where lasers might fail.
Film-Plane Offset: Features a programmable offset that adjusts the distance readout to match the camera’s sensor or film-plane position, regardless of where the sensor horns are mounted.
Adjustable Sensitivity: Allows the user to fine-tune the sensor’s range and “width” to avoid false readings from foreground objects or walls.
Universal Compatibility: Works with all film and digital camera systems (Sony, ARRI, RED) and can interface with wireless follow-focus systems like Preston or ARRI for on-screen distance overlays.
Rugged & Compact: Built from machined aluminum to withstand harsh production environments while remaining lightweight enough for gimbal or handheld use.
