The Canon FD GL Optics Rehoused Lenses are vintage Canon FD still photography lenses that have been meticulously rebuilt and modernized by GL Optics for professional cinema use. These lenses retain the sought-after optical characteristics of the original Canon FD glass, known for its pleasing warm tones, smooth rendering, and distinctive flares, while incorporating robust, industry-standard mechanics. Often compared to the classic Canon K35 lenses due to shared visual qualities, the FD lenses typically offer a slightly cooler and more contrasty image and are generally more accessible in price.

Key Features and Benefits:

Vintage Optics with Modern Mechanics: Combines the desirable aesthetic of classic Canon FD lenses with the durability and usability of modern cinema lens housings.
Enhanced Build Quality: Rehousing provides a more robust construction to withstand the rigors of film production.
Uniform Focus and Iris Gears: Features industry-standard 0.8 mod gears with consistent diameters across the set for easy use with follow focus and lens control systems.
Improved Iris Design: Many rehouses upgrade the original 8-blade iris to 14 or more blades, resulting in a smoother, more circular bokeh (out-of-focus highlights) at all aperture stops.
Extended Focus Throw: Offers a significantly longer focus throw (often around 300 degrees, except for wider lenses) for precise and smooth focus pulling.
Consistent Front Diameter: Typically features a uniform 95mm front diameter (or 110mm in some rehouses) across the set for quick and easy lens changes without adjusting matte boxes and other accessories.
Fixed Lens Length: Internal focusing mechanisms ensure that the lens maintains a constant physical length during focusing, crucial for compatibility with matte boxes.
Choice of Mounts: Available in PL mount as standard, with interchangeable mounts like EF, Sony E, and Nikon F often offered.
Full Frame Coverage: Designed to cover full-frame and larger sensor sizes.
Preservation of Image Characteristics: The rehousing process is intended to preserve the original color rendition, contrast, and overall “look” of the vintage Canon FD glass.
Potential Investment: Rehoused vintage lenses can hold their value well and may even appreciate over time.
