Canon FD lenses were the primary interchangeable lens system for Canon’s 35mm Single-Lens Reflex (SLR) cameras from their introduction in 1971 (with the Canon F-1) until the introduction of the EOS system (EF mount) in 1987.
They are known for their high-quality, all-metal construction (especially the earlier versions) and unique optical characteristics that are highly sought after by photographers and videographers using modern mirrorless cameras via adapters.
Key Features:
Classic/Vintage Aesthetic: Produces a desirable “film-like” look with rich colors, soft contrast, and natural bokeh (ideal for portrait and cinematic work).
Premium Mechanical Build: Early models feature solid metal and glass construction for exceptional durability and a smooth, precise manual focus feel.
Breech-Lock Mount: The original FD mount (and later New FD/FDn bayonet version) allowed for full-aperture metering and multiple automatic exposure (AE) modes on compatible SLR bodies.
Optical Excellence: Included pioneering technologies for their time, such as aspherical and fluorite elements.
Affordability and Adaptability: Many models are relatively inexpensive today and can be easily adapted to a wide range of modern mirrorless digital cameras.
Cost: 10.000,00€
