The LOMO Round Front anamorphic set (35mm, 50mm, 75mm, 100mm) is widely regarded as the “gold standard” of Soviet cinema glass. Unlike the earlier square-front models, the round-front series features a more sophisticated optical design where the anamorphic element is placed between lens groups or behind the spherical unit. This results in significantly improved sharpness, reduced distortion, and much more stable focus tracking. While they are more technically consistent, they still retain the legendary LOMO soul—producing organic skin tones, creamy fall-off, and the iconic horizontal blue flares that digital cinematographers crave for high-end narrative work.
Key Features:
Improved Optical Performance: Features the advanced “round front” design which offers better edge-to-edge sharpness and higher contrast than square-front versions.
Internal Focusing Mechanics: Unlike front-element focusing lenses, these maintain a constant physical length, making them far more compatible with matte boxes and follow-focus systems.
Classic 2x Anamorphic Squeeze: Provides the authentic widescreen aesthetic with beautiful vertically elongated oval bokeh and a shallow depth-of-field look.
Signature Flare Character: Capable of producing the famous horizontal blue streaks and internal “glow” that define the vintage anamorphic film look.
Professional PL Mount Conversions: Most sets are updated with stainless steel PL mounts and standardized 0.8 pitch gears for seamless integration with modern camera rigs.

This five-lens set, spanning 35mm through 150mm, provides cinematographers with a complete anamorphic prime range covering wide-angle through medium telephoto perspectives, with the addition of the 150mm extending the set’s versatility into portraiture and telephoto territory that makes it a truly comprehensive production system. Originally manufactured for Soviet cinema productions and now widely rehoused and serviced for modern PL mount compatibility, these lenses are an outstanding choice for feature films, music videos, and commercial productions seeking authentic anamorphic character, distinctive visual storytelling, and an irreplaceable vintage optical identity on contemporary camera platforms.
Key Features:
Each lens in the set delivers the classic anamorphic look with distinctive oval bokeh, sweeping horizontal lens flares, and characteristic barrel distortion that creates an immediately cinematic and visually compelling wide-aspect image.
The five focal lengths — 35mm, 50mm, 75mm, 100mm, and 150mm — provide a comprehensive range covering wide-angle through medium telephoto perspectives, with the 150mm extending the set’s reach for portraiture, dialogue scenes, and telephoto isolation.
The anamorphic 2x squeeze factor delivers the classic 2.39:1 widescreen aspect ratio natively in-camera, providing the authentic scope look without the need for post-production desqueezing artifacts or cropping.
LOMO anamorphic lenses are renowned for their warm, organic color rendition and gentle contrast rendering, producing images with a timeless vintage cinematic quality that modern anamorphic designs struggle to replicate.
PL mount compatibility ensures seamless integration with a wide range of professional cinema cameras, including ARRI, RED, and Sony VENICE platforms, making them fully operational within modern professional production ecosystems.
All five lenses share consistent color rendition and anamorphic character, ensuring a visually cohesive and unified look when interchanging focal lengths throughout a production.
The robust Soviet-era metal barrel construction provides exceptional durability and longevity, with most sets having been professionally serviced and rehoused to meet the operational demands of contemporary professional production.

KOWA ANAMORPHIC 75: 75374
KOWA ANAMORPHIC 50: 55478
KOWA ANAMORPHIC 40: 45265
Note about the 50mm lens:
The witness scale has fallen out of calibration with the optic in a manner that is not fixed by traditional collimation. It’s a little (-) in the close focus range and a little (+) in the far focus. So at close focus the witness marks indicate that you’re a little under where you should be, and close to infinity, it’s over ( meaning you can get a proper infinity no problem, which is important). The mid-range is on. It’s quite minor, but for the sake of full disclosure, it bears mentioning. It would need either a re- tooling of the focus mechanism, or the cheaper and more practical solution would probably be to re-do the markings on the barrel, since close focus and infinity are not really compromised.
The Kowa Anamorphic Set of 4 is an exceptional and comprehensive collection of vintage Japanese anamorphic cinema primes, renowned for their extraordinarily beautiful optical character that delivers a uniquely refined take on the classic anamorphic look — featuring strikingly elegant blue horizontal flares, smooth oval bokeh, and a warm, three-dimensional rendering that has made Kowa anamorphics one of the most distinctive and sought-after vintage anamorphic lens series in professional filmmaking.
