Classic Bokeh: Zeiss B Speed lenses are known for their unique 9-blade iris that creates a mesmerizing bokeh effect. Out-of-focus highlights are rendered as rounded triangles at wider apertures, transitioning to smoother shapes when stopped down.
Fast Aperture: With a maximum aperture of T1.4 across the lineup, these lenses excel in low-light conditions and offer filmmakers the ability to achieve a shallow depth of field for creative focus effects.
Compact and Lightweight: Despite their robust build, B Speed lenses are surprisingly small and maneuverable, making them ideal for handheld shooting or use with gimbals and drones.
Legendary Character: Originally introduced in the 1970s, Zeiss B Speeds have earned a reputation for their distinctive look and exceptional image quality.
Modern Usability: While vintage lenses, some companies offer rehoused versions of Zeiss B Speeds with improved ergonomics and features for use in modern filmmaking workflows.

Compact size: Their lightweight and relatively small design makes them ideal for travel photography or for photographers who prefer a more minimalist kit.
Fast aperture: Many Summicron lenses have wide maximum apertures, which allows for shooting in low-light conditions without a flash. Additionally, a fast aperture contributes to a shallow depth of field, which can be desirable for isolating your subject and creating a pleasing bokeh effect.
Smooth bokeh: The bokeh produced by Summicron lenses is known for its smoothness and aesthetically pleasing qualities. Out-of-focus areas are rendered softly and gradually, creating a dreamlike quality to images.
Classic rendering: Leica Summicron lenses produce a classic, natural look that is prized by many photographers. Photos taken with these lenses often have a timeless quality and a subtle richness of color.

The Optar Illumina 8mm T1.3 prime lens covers the full Super-16 aperture with room to spare. The Optar Illumina Primes are often referred to as Russia’s answer to Zeiss Super Speeds. They are very similar to Zeiss Super Speeds in regards to speed, wide open performance, size, weight, and mechanical design. There are some differences though. These lenses have a unique iris design that produces petal shaped bokeh when stopped down. Their more modern coatings give flares a more modern flavor with more greens and magentas. The Optar Illumina lenses offer one of the most modern optical designs available for Super-16mm cinematography. At one point in time, regarded to be a modern alternative to Zeiss Super Speeds these are fast lenses that can work well in available light. They were the first set of lenses specifically designed for the Super-16 format. Lens has large, clearly marked focus markings, that can be read from either side of the lens. Excellent lens with nice color contrast and nice vintage warmth. They have a slightly warmer and softer contrast look than Zeiss glass, similar to the difference between Cooke and Zeiss. These lenses have excellent color and contrast, and are very resistant to glare. – hdgear.tv
